Adoption celebration set for Nov. 13 in Tupelo

Adoptive families from across North Mississippi will gather at the Lee County Justice Center in Tupelo for a celebration on Saturday, Nov. 13, at 10 a.m.

Families who finalized adoptions during 2021 in the First Chancery District are invited to attend. The First Chancery District includes Alcorn, Itawamba, Monroe, Pontotoc, Prentiss, Lee, Tishomingo and Union counties.

The program will include pictures with Santa and Mrs. Claus as well as gifts for the families, said Nicole McLaughlin, Executive Director of the Mississippi Access to Justice Commission. There will be story time for the children, and refreshments.

November is National Adoption Awareness Month. President Ronald Reagan proclaimed the first National Adoption Week in 1984. President Bill Clinton declared the month of November as National Adoption Awareness Month in 1995.

Media are invited to the ceremony. Media should ask the Court and parents for permission before photographing or videotaping children.
